Making a desk with Steve.

Today I'm making a desk with Steve.
First we had to wear a facemask, earmuffs and safety goggles to cut out the pieces of wood we needed.

Then we had to sand it off.

The protection may  make you look weird!
Now we had to drill the different pieces together. Finally we slightly drilled four nails into the bottom.
Then we had to white wash the whole desk. Make sure you vacuum all the dust before you start painting.

Paint the top bit where your going to sit a laptop or something. (We used purple chalkboard paint). Make sure to do two coats. When the paint is dry attach the top to the bottom.

Now you've got a desk!

  1. What an awesome experience Ava. The your photograph showing the different jobs you did really helped me picture how the desk was constructed? Your blog left me with lots of questions - well done! Where is the desk going and what is it going to be used for? Are you leaving it natural or are you going to paint or varnish it. Is it a skill Steve could work with you on Monday Mashup? I would love to learn to make my own furniture : >

  2. I love your new desk Ava, especially as it is purple! It looks like Steve has taught you lots of new skills. Where do you think you might use these skills next?
Wee tip: You can put your photos side by side by back spacing after you have uploaded them, this means your post won't be too long. Have a go and see if you can do this, if not, I can show you when we are back at school.

  3. Hi Sharon, the desk is going by my drawers in my bedroom, I will use it for mostly school work. We are going to leave the sides natural. Steve says he's not going back to school (haha I made that up!) He said he will think about it! It takes a few hours. I'm not sure where I'll use the skills next maybe making like a bird house or something! (I say bird house because of the maths thing Nigel have us!) It doesn't let me space them side by side.☹️ It's annoying because on Chromebooks and laptops you can do lots more things than you can do on tablet!

  4. Kai pai Ava! Your desk looks very flash Ava. Sanding is one of my favourite things to do. I had to sand my door before I painted it last year. I can help you space your photos out if you like when we're back at school. Sometime this is difficult in Blogger and that's why I use something like Befunky. It will let you create a grid or multiple grids. This uploads better into Blogger. I would like to see a photo of your desk when its all finished. Elizabeth K
