Gardening

Today Millah, Maia and I planted some spring bulbs. There were daffodils, purple tulips, orange tulips, yellow tulips, pink freesias, white crocuses and blue and red irises. But that's only the ones we planted! We still have a few to put in by the driveway.

What you will need
A hoe, a small spade, some bulbs, a pair of gardening gloves, a face mask and some compost.

Firstly hoe the weeds out of the area your going to plant the bulbs.

We sorted the bulbs into categories. So bulbs that need direct sunlight and bulbs that don't mind part shade.
Then we  choose a packet that we wanted to plant and  took out 3 or 5 bulbs then sat them in the top of the soil read the back of the packet where it says how big the hole needs to be and dig however long it says.

Make sure you wear the gloves and and mask when you're putting the compost in the bottom of the hole because if you don't wear the facemask then compost might get in your lungs and then you'll be sick and you'll have to go to the hospital. And if you don't wear the gloves then you might lick your fingers or bite then or something then the same thing will happen cos it's going into your mouth which is not good.
Plant the bulbs sprout facing the sky ( the sprout is the growing shoot).  Grandma says that they look nicer planted in 3's or 5's so that's what we did! Then cover them up with all the other soil. All you need to do now is sit back and enjoy watch them grow in spring.

  4. Awesome work Ava, Millah and Maia. It lovely to see you all working together to see your garden blossom in the spring. What a selection of bulbs! Thanks for the clear instructions and detailed photographs. It was great to see you wearing masks when using compost - an important health message for all gardeners. I look forward to seeing your amazing garden in full bloom. I was deciding which bulbs I liked best but I loved the colours and the flowers so I couldn't choose. Do you or your family have a favourite.

  5. Wow Ava! Looks like you, Millah and Maia were busy - that's quite a big job, and a lot of work gone into it! You've been very thorough, and careful with the way you've followed the planting and safety instructions around that project, so I'm sure you'll have loads of awesome flowers to look at in spring! Thanks for sharing the project; it was great to look at the pictures of you all doing various parts of it, and the story was really well written! Much love, Malcolm (Dad)
