My Poetry Journal

                        

For the past few weeks Urmi's literacy group have been working on the slideshow you have just watched. My favourite poem is the Diamante Poem. What was your favourite poem?

Where in the class has the most bacteria?

For inquiry me, Tara and Maea have been researching where in the class has the most bacteria. 

First we had to research lots of facts about bacteria and write them all on a slideshow in our own words. Then we had to make agar mixture and then swab everywhere bacteria is most likely to be. We then had to put the swabbed cotton bud and mush it into the agar. Then we had to do a blog post and link it to a document.

Today me and Maea made an agar mixture. We didn't have any beef stock powder so we used self-raising flour. This is what the mixture turned out like...

After a few days we checked them and they were a bit runny but they had still grown a lot of bacteria. 

This is what Tara's microphone she swabbed turned out like.

 I can see one blue mold colony, and one small white colony.

This is Tara's agar plate. For this one she swabbed a red wobbly stool.

 I can see one pink colony coming through a black colony. There area few big and small black colonies. 

There are also a few yellowy-green colonies and orange colonies. 

This photo next is my one. I swabbed the last toilet seat.

 There is one big black colonie of mold. One small colony of bacteria in the mold it has blue bacteria on the inside and white on the outside. There are a few similar colonies of bacteria some are blue and some are yellow. There is also a big bunch of pink bacteria forming.

These next two ones are the ones that Maea swabbed. This one is the blinds.

 It has around 9 colonies of bacteria on the top. Some yellow some white a little bit of blue colonies coming in and there’s a little green mold on the side. 

This one is of the rolls (where every kid in the class writes on in the morning at least they should).

 I can see lots of tan agar, and little molds. There is also big brown colonies.

                                    Bring Te Reo And Your Name To Life Minecraft

For the past few weeks Sharon's kiawhina group worked with Elizabeth on Minecraft Education. First we had to plan our name and if we wanted it to stand up from the ground or be created into the ground. I wanted mine to stand out of the ground. Then we had to think what colours went together. I chose green, purple, pink and blue. Then we went on Minecraft and started to build our plans. Then when we thought we were finished we checked there was nothing else we wanted, we added some light. After we had done everything we told Elizabeth we had finished, then she turned it to midnight and took a few photos of it. She then asked us if we wanted to bring Te Reo to life, so like if we wanted to build something like a bird or food, then we wrote the Maori name to life. I decided it would be cool to create kakariki (green parakeet). So I got an image off  google and copied what I thought it looked like in Minecraft. It was hard to do  in Minecraft because there were no curved blocks. Here are some photos of all the creations I made.

Sign Language

 I can sign the alphabet in sign language. My favourite letters to do in sign language are G, H, and W.

                               The House

Droplets of rain scatter across the dark and creaky house. For generations this cottage has been owned by an elderly couple. Eventually they died and the owners got replaced by no other than Captain Gook, and his 3 mysterious children. One mysterious child was called Bob and he was 3 years old, a 7 year old girl called Mary, there was also a 5 year old boy called Jeff, 3 month old Jill was the worst of them all and she had a twin called Lily. They lick the walls and poop on the mats then crawl away not looking guilty but with a small smirk, as they sink into Captain Gook's uncomfortable lap. They pee on her white lace bed and dribble into everyone's drinks, They know my secret I have to take off. My roots peel from the ground and I shoot out never to be seen again.

                                Quick Write: Mouse.

Dig, dig, dig. I say to myself as I pop my tiny little head out of the ground and gasp for air. My pink shiny nose has a small piece of brown watery dirt. As I carefully pull my furry swaying body from the heavy dirt I fall down again. I can't get up. I need a run up. I slowly walk back 6 steps then run and yay, I made it up! My pink nose touches something hard and it feels big..."AHH!" It's a fox! What do I do now?! "HELP."

1) Drop a kitten or drop the latest iPhone? 

                            The latest iPhone, I love animals.

2) Be poor and have loads of friends or be rich and have none?

                            Be poor but have loads of friends.

3) Drink juice for the rest of your life of drink coke for the rest of your life? 

                            Drink juice, I don't like coke!

4) Eat hot food for the rest of your life or eat cold food for the rest of your life?

                            Eat hot food, everything tastes better hot.

5) Be Tik Tok famous or be Roblox famous?

                     Be Roblox Famous!! Roblox is way                                                     better!  

6) Life be freezing or life be so hot? So if life was hot you could stay in a swimming pool forever, or if it was freezing you could stay in a spa forever. Or something.

                     Life be really hot, I love swimming in pools!  

7) Be a Prime Minister or be a Mayor?

                            Be a Mayor, because there's less pressure.

8) Have a dog or have a cat?

                            Although I absolutely love both I'm saying a dog,                                you can do more with them.

                            Be a police because they get to investigate loads of                             interesting things.

                             Eat fruit, there are loads of yum and healthy fruit.

                             Have a Chromebook/laptop. You can do more.

                             Be a lawyer, doctors have to look a gross stuff.

                              Have a ford, they're real cool, with a boot thing                                   with no roof!

My Poem #2

  Mischievous

Dark, red, bold and spikey

She had large blood red eyes

Her breath smelt like smoke and fresh blood

Moving as fast as a full tank of gas 

Going 100km per hour

Feels like a cold hand

Slowly making way to your neck

Carries a medal, half joy half fear

Mischievous’s voice is low and frightening

She says “Oooh,I can see you."

Quick Write: Mr. Orangutan

                        Quick Write: Orangutan 

The baby orangutan shelters himself with a DIY umbrella. The green umbrella is made from leaves and sticks. Mr. Orangutan loves his new umbrella, he takes it everywhere with him. When it rains he cradles it over his head and cuddles the rest of his long fluffy body. His family ditched him when he was 5 now he is 5 and 1/2 so he's decided to go looking for them. He searches long and far until he spots a cave. The cave has a glowing light far down the end and Mr. Orangutan is freezing, even with his fluffy coat. Mr. Orangutan thinks to himself I need somewhere to sleep and I need something to eat, I guess I may as well. He then chuckles to himself. He stomps into a warm and cozy cave with glow worms surrounding him. He thinks this must be where the lights are coming from. But no he was wrong the lights where not coming from there. What does Mr. Orangutan do now?

                      Quick Write: Night

One warm summers night two little girls were wearing their unicorn nighties in bed when they heard a loud 'BOOM' a bit like an explosion. It was weird because no one else noticed it or heard it. Anyway they were so scared and they had no idea what was going on outside. Ava whispered to Paige "Lets go see what's happening outside." Paige said quietly "OK." They slowly hopped out of bed and made their way downstairs. As quiet as little mice they opened the door and stepped slowly onto the stepping stones. Taking a deep breathe they started to run. They stood on the long and windy road. The road trailed away with the lampposts attached. The lights were glowing as yellow as the sun and there were houses as dark as a black hole, no one was awake not even a soul. They realized that one lamp was wonky. 

                            I wonder why?  

Quick Write Skateboarding

We had to write a story about a picture and then we had 7 minutes to complete it and 2 minutes to edit it and make sure the spelling was correct. (All mine was.) Here is my story. Enjoy!

As I hitch up my shorts I thump off the ramp and have to stop myself from falling off my skateboard. I roll as fast as my skateboard can take me down, down, down the 20m drop. I almost fell off but thankfully I saved myself… So here’s what happened… I accidentally rolled off the ramp, I got to the ground. I then jumped like I reversed silly samoned. Now there’s not a scratch in sight. Although there are kids all around me falling over and scraping their legs and arms. I tried again and I managed to kick-flip on the way down. Someone asked me if I wanted to join the world cup. "Yes of course!" I splutter. "Good see you on Friday, at 3.00pm. Bye." And with that he walked away.
