Town

On Monday the year sevens jumped on a bus into town. We went to the Margret Mahy playground, and had a work sheet to work out different things. There was one activity where you had to find a phrase that started with 'The blueness of the sea'. Once we completed the work sheet we had to get a crayon and rub it  against a piece of paper of our favourite thing there, e.g. my favourite was the bird sculpture. We then walked to Victoria Square to eat lunch.

We went into the town hall and watched a Tumahana performance of The Gods of earth or something. The main performers were Tane Mahuta, Takaroa, Papatuanuku, and Rakinui. At the performance I learnt that Takaroa is also called Tangaroa. My favourite scene was when Rakinui and Takaroa were fighting because Ranginui tumbled over and we saw his butt.

Completed Self Portrait.

Today I completed my self portrait. I used pastels to colour the face. The top right corner is of my family, the stick figures was how my little sister used to draw people. The top left corner is my house and the bottom corners are of my pets.                                         This is one of the stick figures.

Sneaky Snake Graph.

Today for maths we had to create a graph out of our data from a game we played. The game was called Sneaky Snakes, first we drew a chart of where to put the data on. Then we had to get a counter and put it on the start of the snake, we rolled the dice and whatever number it landed on we had to move the counter forward that many spaces. Then we put a line on the chart. We did this 20 times and then the next day we moved the data on to another page and started writing things e.g. the dice rolled 3 throughout 7 games. Here is my bar graph.

Summary Of Bok Choy.

Bok Choy This link takes you to the book.

This story is called Bok Choy and the author is Paul Mason. This story is set in New Zealand and it’s  when the chinese came.

The time is the gold rush. Ah Sum is a chinese vege seller and doesn’t judge people by what they look like however there are people who judge him. There is a boy called Jacob and he doesn’t like chinese, Mrs. Bishop is racist too. Jacob decides to go fishing and falls into the fast flowing river. He wakes up in a little hut. Ah sum saved him from the river and got Jacob’s mum to come collect him. Jacob now likes Ah sum and chinese people, his mum too but Mrs Bishop still dislikes Chinese.

At first Jacob doesn’t really like Chinese people because maybe he thinks that they are just taking up all the land but then Ah Sum saves him and Jacob’s hatred turns to sympathy.

The big message is not all stereotypes are true and to accept people for who they are. We know this because this story has a lot of people who were racist at the start but then most of them turn to like Chinese after all.

I think that Ah Sum is a very nice guy and does lots of things for others, I wouldn’t be racist to someone who gets food for me or anyone. Ah Sum was nice for saving Jacob and Mrs Bishop shouldn’t say those things in front of Ah Sum. I think that racism is bad.

Bok Choy

Yesterday we started reading a book called ' Bok Choy'. The big idea was that not all stereotypes are true, and that you should accept people for who they are. This link takes you to the book. Click it.

Complete Self Portrait.

Today for art I finished off my self portrait. In the background it has a drawing of my family, my dogs, my house and my cats. I chose to colour my self portrait with pastels because I think they will make the lines fade away.

Statistics Graph

I made a google form and sent it to an average of ten people, I got two replies. From there I made a bar graph from the spreadsheet. The same amount of people liked muffins and croissants. Nobody likes the salads. One person would like the lunches heated.

Do you agree with all these answers?
